The story takes place during New Year's Day in a certain family in Nagaoka.
My daughter, who usually works in Tokyo, came back to her hometown of Nagaoka with her fiancé for the New Year's holiday.
The three of them, including my father, shared drinks.
Let's toast with Daiginjo sake.
The feeling of "him" being in the familiar space of my childhood home is both strange and amusing.
Every New Year's, when I went back to my parents' house, I would have a drink with my dad in the evening.
But today, she looks happier than usual as she shares drinks with him.
He seems a little nervous.
I will never forget this scene of a dinner table filled with smiles.
I was nervous. My throat had been dry since before I even got on the bullet train.
I was nervous about whether I could greet them properly, or if I would just get yelled at.
Perhaps sensing my feelings, she kept her hand on my shoulder the entire time we were on the bullet train.
My dad was a friendly, nice guy who loved to drink. I felt so relaxed that I drank more than usual.
Niigata sake is really delicious.
I was expecting some random guy to show up, but he's actually a pretty good one.
It's also wonderful that he likes alcohol.
So, the time has finally come for my daughter. I feel a mix of sadness and happiness.
You've grown up to be beautiful, just like your mother. I think I've had a bit too much to drink today, haha.
