SAKE Museum Joh-Gura
Time at the sake brewery
See, learn, and taste.
Founded in 1548, Yoshinogawa is located in Nagaoka's Setagaya district, a place where you can encounter the sake brewing traditions and culture that have been passed down through generations.
The "Sake Museum Jozo" was newly created by utilizing a storehouse from the Taisho era, which is over 100 years old.
You can view the exhibits, sample the sake, experience the brewing process, and then choose your favorite bottle to take home.
Whether you're a seasoned sake drinker or trying it for the first time, this is a place where you can relax and enjoy yourself in your own way.
This will help you feel closer to Yoshinogawa.
The exhibition corner showcases Yoshinogawa's history of over 470 years and the brewing culture that thrives in the local Settsuya area. You can trace the activities of the past through various materials remaining in the brewery, such as old photographs, labels, sake vessels, and tools used in sake brewing. You can also watch videos of sake brewing and nostalgic advertisements on the projector inside the building. Take your time to enjoy the history of craftsmanship that Yoshinogawa has inherited and the culture that this land has nurtured.
At the "SAKE Bar," you can easily enjoy the diverse flavors of Yoshinogawa, from standard sakes to limited-edition varieties available only here. You can sample different sakes to find your favorite, or choose a drink that suits the season or your mood of the day. We also offer snacks made with flavors born from the climate of Nagaoka, as well as snacks made with Yoshinogawa sake lees. Feel free to enjoy pairing sake with food as you like. Non-alcoholic amazake is also available, so drivers, children, and families can relax and enjoy themselves.
The building houses a craft beer brewery. This is where Yoshinogawa's "Settaya Craft" is brewed. Using the same brewing water as their sake and rice koji as a secondary ingredient, it has a gentle and refreshing taste befitting a sake brewery. Through the glass windows of the brewery, you can sometimes watch the beer being brewed, depending on the time of year. You can enjoy it at the "SAKE Bar" inside the building, and it is also available for purchase as a souvenir at the gift shop.
